The Universidad de Los Andes was a place I wanted to visit while in Bogota. I find university campuses interesting. Universities are the heart of a nation; where the young minds are sculpted and encouraged. I visited EAFIT while in Medellin, and thought it was a beautiful campus. I thought it’d be interesting to compare one of Bogota’s best private universities with Medellin’s best.

The Universidad de Los Andes campus is on the side of the mountain on the edge of central Bogota. It has some great views of the city from it’s balconies, and easy access to the Candaleria zone of Bogota. There are many student amenities in the area, including restaurants, copy shops, bars, and student accommodations. It’s a lively part of town, with many young people. The area around Los Andes is more lively than that around EAFIT.

Like EAFIT, the Universidad de Los Andes has beautiful green space and common areas. It’s a clean and modern university, with all of the amenities you’d expect from a top private university. These amenities include modern computers, both Mac and PC, sound and recording rooms, labs, and fully serviced libraries, which include all of the top magazines from the USA (an expensive luxury.)

I enjoyed my visit to the Universidad de Los Andes, but it would’ve been better if class was in session. Unfortunately my visit was at the same time as student vacations. Campuses are more fun when full. Maybe you’ll be the next student to help fill the classrooms of this campus.
